Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune congratulated Algerian Olympic champion Iman Khlif after she won the gold medal in the 66-kilogram boxing category. Tebboune stated in a post on his "X" account: "We are all proud of you, Olympic champion Iman. Your victory today is a victory for Algeria, and your gold is Algeria's gold. Thank you, Iman Khlif."
Khlif, who also earned a silver medal at the 2022 World Championship, won the final bout against China's Yang Liu. Khlif said in an interview: "I thank God because I have dreamed of an Olympic medal for eight years. You know the hardships and the campaign I faced, and thank God the struggle and effort culminated in the gold which I dedicate to the Algerian and Arab people, especially after the large number of messages I received from all over the world and the Arab countries. I dedicate this medal to them after the fierce campaign I endured, which I always responded to in the ring."
She added: "The Olympic Games is a grand event with high levels from all over the world, so the competition was fierce in every direction, but it increased my determination to achieve my dream. I would like to thank my support team, especially my Cuban-American coach Pedro Diaz."
