Sudani Discusses Regional Developments with Blinken

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani received a phone call from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during which they discussed regional developments and efforts to support regional and international stability. During the call, Sudani reiterated Iraq’s principled stance on "the underlying causes of instability, represented by the ongoing aggression against the steadfast Gaza, and the necessity for major countries and international organizations to fully play their roles in halting the crimes being committed against the Palestinian people, and to apply international laws against perpetrators of crimes against humanity to put an end to this horrific savagery, as well as to prevent the violation of the sovereignty of countries in the region." He also affirmed "Iraq's commitment to preventing any action that leads to security disturbances or endangers the international coalition advisors fighting ISIS present in Iraq," emphasizing "the continuation of communication between the two sides to conclude the coalition's mission in Iraq and transition to bilateral security relations that serve to enhance security and stability." For his part, Blinken reviewed the ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, and the United States' commitment to continued consultations with the Iraqi side regarding regional issues, as well as support for strengthening relations and cooperation between the two countries.
