Moscow and Washington Initiate Dialogue on Cybersecurity

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that Moscow and Washington have managed to launch a serious dialogue in Geneva and establish an exchange mechanism regarding cybersecurity. The deputy minister mentioned that a well-developed mechanism has been proposed, but to achieve the desired result, cooperation must be mutual, emphasizing that efforts in this area should not be made solely by Russia. Ryabkov added, in his speech at the Russia Investor Conference: "In Geneva, we were able to initiate a very deep and thoughtful exchange with the United States on these issues... This has become one of the important elements of the overall achievements of the meeting." He continued, "We - Russia - do not deny the importance of addressing problems in this area. However, I would like to emphasize that the only way to achieve effective results is through mutual cooperation and participation from both sides, including all relevant institutions from both countries. Otherwise, it will end as it usually does during cooperation with the United States on many issues: Washington announces its agreement but does not implement the initiative, which causes it to wither."
