Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University, Ahmed Karima, stated that "good singing is good, and bad singing is bad, as our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said." He added during a phone call with the program "Hadret Al-Muwatin" hosted by journalist Sayed Ali, aired on "Al-Hadath Al-Youm" channel on Sunday evening, that there is no definitive text, whether a Quranic verse or an authentic hadith, that categorically prohibits singing. He clarified that purposeful singing is not forbidden and there is no evidence for its prohibition, whereas vulgar singing is undoubtedly prohibited. He also mentioned that there are prophetic texts that include poetry, and there are verses that evoke enthusiasm, and others that express love for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that are not forbidden.
