The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division announced that "at 10:00 PM on Friday, August 16, 2024, the Zaqaq al-Blat police station in the Beirut Police Unit received a phone call reporting the sound of a child crying inside a garage on Clemenceau Street. Immediately, a patrol from the station was dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, young men approached them with a child who is not yet two years old, stating that they had found him in the mentioned garage after opening the iron door. The child was taken to the station, and then Ms. H. A. (born in 1983, Lebanese) appeared and declared that she is the child's paternal grandmother. During questioning, she explained that while at her home, someone came and informed her that her son, S. G. (born in 2002, Lebanese), previously detained for drug-related offenses, had left his child (A. G., born in 2023, Lebanese) in the garage, and that he is divorced from D. M. (born in 1995, Lebanese), who holds custody rights. She noted that he took their son about two weeks ago and has not returned him to his mother, who has filed a complaint against him with the Beirut Judicial Division for the crime of child abduction, after which he fled his home, and she has not heard from him since.
As a result of the investigation, the child's mother arrived at the police station. When her statement was taken, she claimed that the child is hers and that there is a reconciliation contract issued by the Jaafari Sharia Court stipulating that the custody of the child belongs to her until he turns two years old, with the father's right to visit and stay with him from Friday noon until Sunday noon. She stated that for about two weeks, her ex-husband took the child, and to date, he has not returned him, nor does she know anything about him. She reported that she filed a complaint against him for the crime of child abduction and non-compliance with a court order, and he is currently evading authorities. The child was handed over to his mother, and the case file was submitted to the Beirut Judicial Division for further investigation, while efforts continue to apprehend the father."
