The Democratic Party officially endorsed Kamala Harris today, Wednesday, to run in the presidential election scheduled for November 5th. This announcement was made during the national convention of the Democratic Party held in Chicago. In her first comment on her official candidacy, Harris stated that winning the Democratic delegates' nomination is a great honor and together they will pave a new path towards the future and freedom.
Thus, Harris will face former U.S. President Donald Trump, who won the Republican Party's nomination in the upcoming elections.
**A Strong Boost**
With the start of the events at the American Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris received a morale boost following support from party leaders such as President Biden and former candidate Hillary Clinton. Harris was not a candidate for the party in the presidential race until the 21st of last month, but the sudden withdrawal of President Biden propelled her forward as the party's candidate in the presidential elections scheduled for November 5th.
**Harris's Advancements**
Despite the limited time for her campaign, she has begun to raise concerns within the opposing camp and is taking steps forward, as recent polls have consistently indicated her leading Trump in several states. In his speech to the Democratic National Convention on Monday, President Joe Biden supported Kamala Harris's nomination in the race for the White House against Republican Donald Trump, praising his vice president as "the future of the party." He added, "Are you ready to vote for freedom? Are you ready to vote for democracy and America? Let me ask you, are you ready to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz?"
**Election of a Woman**
Biden was not the only leader who expressed support for Harris in his speech, as former Secretary of State and previous presidential candidate Hillary Clinton backed Kamala Harris's nomination during her address at the convention, calling for the election of a woman as President of the United States for the first time. Clinton stated, "The United States is witnessing something. We feel it. It is something we have worked for and dreamed about for a long time." She urged Americans to realize her dream on November 5th and "smash the highest and most difficult glass ceilings" by voting for Kamala Harris.
However, Hillary Clinton warned Democrats, saying, "Do not lose focus and do not rest on your laurels; in the next 78 days, we must work harder than ever." Clinton also praised Harris's integrity, stating that she "has the character, experience, and vision to lead us forward."
Alongside Clinton and Biden, James Harrison, chair of the Democratic National Committee, supported the vice president’s nomination, saying that Kamala Harris will fulfill the party's ambitions and what Americans hope for a bright future. The American Democratic National Convention commenced on Monday with the participation of President Joe Biden and party officials in Chicago, Illinois, and is scheduled to continue until tomorrow, Thursday. Following Biden's withdrawal last month, Harris also received support from former President Barack Obama and his wife. Obama told Harris at the time, "We reached out to say that Michelle and I are extremely proud to support you, and we will do everything we can to help you win this election and reach the Oval Office."
