Plan for Going to Gaza Between Abbas and Security Leaders

The Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) reported today, Wednesday, that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas discussed a movement plan prepared by the executive committee to go to Gaza during a meeting with leaders of the security agencies in the Palestinian Authority. It was clarified that this comes "based on the President's initiative to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people and protect them."

Two days ago, the Hebrew site "Walla News" mentioned that the Minister of Civil Affairs and Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein al-Sheikh, submitted a formal request to Israeli National Security Council Chairman Tzachi Hanegbi to allow President Mahmoud Abbas to enter Gaza through a crossing controlled by Israel instead of the Rafah crossing, and that he sent a copy of the request to the United States.

It added that "Israeli estimates indicate that Abu Mazen sent this request expecting it to be rejected, allowing him to attack Israel for refusing to allow him into Gaza."

The Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) had announced that "the Palestinian leadership has begun its movements and communications worldwide to prepare for President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership members' visit to the Gaza Strip, in order for the president and the leadership to be with our people who are facing a genocide there, and to confirm that the State of Palestine and the Palestine Liberation Organization hold the sovereignty and responsibility over all Palestinian land, and to work on restoring national unity."

The agency concluded that "in this regard, communication has been made with the United Nations and the permanent member states of the Security Council, Arab and Islamic countries, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Union, the African Union, and other significant countries and forces in the world, to ensure the success of this step and provide support and participation where possible. Israel has also been informed."
