Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received Justice Minister Adel Nassar at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain al-Tineh for discussions on general affairs, latest developments, and legislative matters.
Berri also met with the President of the Beirut Bar Association, Fadi Al-Masri, accompanied by the Association's Secretary Maya Shahab. The meeting covered legal and legislative issues related to the Bar Association and judicial independence.
After the meeting, President Masri expressed, "It was an honor, alongside Secretary Maya Shahab, to visit the Speaker of the House. We discussed national matters concerning Lebanon's security, sovereignty, and independence, as well as collaborative efforts between Parliament and the Lebanese legal community, especially the Bar Association. It's vital for Lebanon's strength and unity among its citizens."
Masri emphasized, "There was mutual agreement on the importance of unity and solidarity among Lebanese people, which is crucial for Lebanon's existence and identity. The Bar Association views itself as a key guardian of Lebanese society and remains dedicated to Lebanon as a symbol of freedom and humanity."
He continued, "We examined various topics, including draft laws the Association is following with Parliament. We discussed specific points with the Speaker, particularly the Judicial Independence Project, which aims to revitalize the judiciary."
Additionally, Masri stated, "We explored association-related issues with the Speaker, himself a lawyer, who is keen on the Bar's matters. We talked about the new ethics code and presented its first draft to him. Dialogue covered all aspects impacting lawyers' interests and the profession's future. The Speaker praised the new electronic platform enabling lawyers to manage their affairs globally."
Masri concluded, "These were the main topics we covered with the Speaker. We will continue discussions, particularly on the new profession regulation law, with final touches set to be completed shortly in collaboration with the Tripoli Bar."
Among other visitors was the cultural advisor at the Iranian Embassy in Lebanon, Mr. Mohammad Reza Mortezaoui, on a protocol visit after assuming his new role.
