Pakistani Interior Minister Meets Iran’s Araqchi in Tehran to Advance Negotiations

Amid uncertainty surrounding the start date for talks between the U.S. and Iran in Switzerland, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bakhtiari announced that Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is set to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi during a visit to Tehran today, Saturday.

Bakhtiari added that Naqvi's visit is part of Islamabad's ongoing efforts regarding the negotiations between Iran and the United States, according to the ISNA news agency.

Message of Reassurance

Al Arabiya/Al Hadath reporter noted that Naqvi may be carrying certain assurances to the Iranian side to initiate the U.S.-Iran negotiations, initially scheduled to begin yesterday in Switzerland but were postponed.

She also mentioned that a high-level American delegation has arrived in Switzerland, where U.S.-Iranian meetings were expected to be held in the Bürgenstock resort in the Lucerne area.

These developments came as an American official revealed earlier today that White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is on his way to Switzerland. The official added that Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s envoy, is already in Switzerland, as reported by Axios.

Furthermore, an informed source stated that the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, is also in Switzerland to assist with the technical aspects of the nuclear negotiations, ahead of the possible arrival of senior negotiators. The source added that Grossi met with American technical teams there yesterday.

Another informed source expected Araqchi to arrive in Geneva this evening as well.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced yesterday the postponement of talks between the two sides, following the White House’s announcement of canceling Vice President J.D. Vance’s trip to Switzerland for “logistical reasons.”

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about resolving all outstanding issues with Iran within 60 days, again hinting at the military option if a final agreement is not reached.
