The U.S. military responded on Saturday to Iranian media reports claiming that the Revolutionary Guard had imposed restrictions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz earlier that day.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that "commercial shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz increased on June 20 (Saturday), with U.S. forces continuing their operations in the region to support freedom of navigation."
CENTCOM's statement continued: "Safe passage through the international waterway remained in effect on Saturday, with 55 commercial ships transporting substantial amounts of goods and over 17 million barrels of oil to global markets."
It added, "The Joint Maritime Information Center issued a statement this week affirming the safety of all ships traversing the designated route free from any arbitrary conditions or obstacles."
CENTCOM concluded its statement by saying: "U.S. forces remain present and vigilant to ensure adherence to all aspects of the agreement with Iran and its full implementation."
