The U.S. State Department announced that the Washington-mediated talks between Lebanon and Israel would continue on Friday, extending beyond the initially scheduled conclusion on Thursday.
In a statement, the State Department confirmed that the discussions are ongoing, emphasizing that the United States is continuing to facilitate the process.
These negotiations occur amid a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah and align with American efforts to stabilize the situation and address lingering security issues between the two sides.
Simultaneously, in a joint statement, the United States and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries expressed support for the ongoing talks regarding Lebanon, emphasizing that the negotiations should not be conditional on the outcomes of other conflicts.
The statement highlighted the need to disarm all non-governmental armed groups as part of broader efforts to enhance stability in Lebanon.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that Lebanon and Israel are on the verge of reaching a “commitment of intentions,” indicating progress in recent negotiation rounds.
