Iranian President Masoud Beshkiyan highlighted the importance of mutual adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by both the United States and Iran, assuring that Iran will honor its commitments if the U.S. does the same.
In a post on the 'X' platform, Beshkiyan stated that Iran's approach to what he described as 'unjustified threats and displays of power without any basis' is characterized by rationality and the preservation of human dignity when making decisions, coupled with a firm and fearless defense when action is required.
Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned that Iranian authorities have requested a meeting scheduled for Tuesday in Doha. Meanwhile, Tehran announced that a technical delegation will visit Qatar this week to follow up on the implementation of the MoU's terms with the United States.
Trump's announcement followed bilateral talks between Iran and Oman, marking their first discussion on managing the Hormuz Strait post-conflict, at a time when Washington and Tehran have agreed to halt the renewed attacks seen last weekend.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt stated that envoys Steve Whitcove and Jared Kushner 'will head to Doha for high-level meetings this week.'
A diplomat familiar with the negotiations told AFP that 'technical teams will meet in the coming days,' adding that communication channels to contain issues 'are still operational.'
An American official told AFP that 'the technical talks on all areas of the MoU are set to continue,' adding that 'both sides will halt (their attacks) for the time being, allowing ships to move freely' in and around the Hormuz Strait.
Iranian Denial
Iran, on its part, denied plans to hold technical-level talks with the Americans, while simultaneously confirming through Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei that a specialized delegation will indeed head to Doha later this week. He emphasized that the visit's purpose is to 'follow up on the implementation of commitments under the MoU, including Clause 11 (release of frozen Iranian assets).'
He also confirmed that 'no negotiation meetings will be held with the United States at any level in the coming days,' noting the Tehran delegation's visit aims to 'follow up on commitments under the MoU, including Clause 11.'
The issue of closing the strait remains a major point of contention in U.S.-Iran negotiations, while Tehran and Oman are considering imposing service fees on ships passing through the strait, conflicting with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which Iran has not ratified and which guarantees unobstructed international strait navigation.
