An American official has confirmed that the United States will play a direct on-ground role in monitoring the implementation of the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel. This will be achieved through American forces present on-site as part of a surveillance mechanism designed to ensure both parties adhere to the agreement's terms.
The Washington Post quoted the official stating that the U.S. already maintains a military presence in Lebanon since the 2024 understandings were reached. These forces will now be tasked with overseeing Lebanon's and Israel's compliance with the new agreement and monitoring any potential violations.
The official clarified that the American forces' mission will be carried out with "complete neutrality and objectivity," ensuring the strict and effective application of the framework agreement's terms while minimizing the chances of military escalation at the border.
He added that the American role is part of a monitoring mechanism aimed at supporting security stability, enhancing confidence between the parties, and preventing any violations that could impact the agreement's execution.
