Recent findings have revealed new attempts to hack WhatsApp accounts in Lebanon, beginning primarily with the use of Facebook's Messenger app.
Specifically, an ordinary-looking message is sent via Messenger to friends, stating that a WhatsApp 'group' will be created, prompting recipients to join. Upon clicking the link provided via Messenger to join this group, users receive a notification indicating that their number will be transferred from an iPhone to a Samsung device.
It has emerged that the initial message sender on Messenger is not genuine. Instead, it is an entity attempting to compromise both the Messenger and WhatsApp accounts of the target victim, using the victim's accounts to lure additional victims.
Therefore, vigilance is advised regarding any links received, to help reduce the increasing number of hacking incidents.
