Cuba's Electric Company announced on Monday a complete nationwide power outage, which led to the shutdown of the power system across the country. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the outage.
The company, in a statement on Telegram, said it is assessing the reasons behind the complete network collapse and will release additional information as it becomes available.
This outage follows a similar incident that occurred last March, when the national electricity grid collapsed, amidst Cuba's ongoing energy crisis.
Cuba's electricity crisis has worsened since early 2026, following a halt in energy supplies from Venezuela, resulting in repeated power outages that have lasted for days in some regions.
In a related development, the United Nations General Assembly is set to discuss the situation in Cuba, including the impact of the U.S. economic embargo on the country's energy sector and economy, at a special session requested by Havana on July 7.
