U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the memorandum of understanding with Tehran appears to be 'over', expressing his reluctance to engage in any future dealings with Iran, describing its officials as 'sick'.
Speaking to reporters from Ankara on Wednesday, Trump stated that Iranians 'stand behind the problems in the region,' adding that the United States has 'wasted a lot of time' dealing with Tehran.
The U.S. president reiterated that the United States will not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon. He also described Iranian officials as 'sick', accusing them of lying and deceit.
Trump accused the Iranians of 'killing thousands', calling them a 'gang', and alleged they targeted American leaders, including himself, and launched missiles at Saudi and Qatari ships in the Gulf, actions he claimed have undermined the basis for understanding between the two countries.
He stated his dissatisfaction with NATO's stance on Iran and Greenland, claiming that the U.S. is not fairly treated within the alliance.
Trump added that Washington has spent over a trillion dollars protecting NATO, but said the alliance hasn't supported the U.S. in dealing with what he labeled as the 'number one state sponsor of terrorism.' He noted that the United States contributes disproportionately to NATO's funding compared to other members, pointing out that Greenland represents a 'big issue' for Washington.
