The U.S. military announced the completion of a series of new strikes targeting "dozens of objectives" in Iran, asserting its readiness to "ensure ongoing freedom of navigation" in the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) clarified in a statement on "X" that operations included strikes against "Iranian military air defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile capabilities, drones, and speedboats, employing fighter jets, U.S. naval ships, one-way attack drones, and one-way attack boats used for the first time."
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard reportedly indicated through Reuters that "our naval forces executed an operation last night to stop two violating vessels that endangered commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz by deactivating their systems."
"Accountability for Iranian Forces"
This development follows CENTCOM's announcement on Sunday that at 21:00 GMT, "additional strikes against Iran were launched to continue undermining its capability to assault civilian sailors and commercial ships freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz."
The U.S. military also noted President Donald Trump authorized these strikes "to hold Iranian forces accountable."
According to "CNN," the U.S. military stated that the "Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired upon commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz," adding that "U.S. aircraft successfully intercepted an Iranian cruise missile and a drone."
Explosions in Iran
Conversely, Iranian state television reported explosions near Sirik and west of Bandar Abbas, as well as in Qeshm and Jask.
Explosions were heard across parts of Bushehr province, with incidents occurring in Shahbandar in Hormozgan province, Abadan, Mahshahr in southern Ahvaz, Chabahar, and Minab, along with southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan, based on local media.
Additionally, U.S. shelling targeted the fourth airbase in Dezful, north of Ahvaz, resulting in a power outage throughout Ahvaz, according to media reports.
A U.S. raid on a water pumping station in Mahshahr reportedly killed one person and injured four, as per Iranian media.
"Diplomatic Efforts Undermined"
Iran vehemently condemned the recent U.S. strikes on its territory, accusing Washington of "undermining" all diplomatic efforts undertaken over the past months to de-escalate regional tension, according to a foreign ministry statement.
Tehran also accused the U.S. of "flagrantly violating all terms of the memorandum of understanding signed in June," causing "a return to insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disrupting international commercial navigation," as per the statement.
Exchanges of Attacks
This follows missile and drone exchanges between Washington and Tehran earlier Sunday, with Iran targeting U.S. facilities in multiple Gulf states, also reinstating the closure of the vital Strait of Hormuz, per Reuters.
However, CENTCOM affirmed the "Strait of Hormuz remains open for all vessels seeking legal passage through this international waterway."
CENTCOM also stated that "U.S. forces are stationed and ready to maintain freedom of navigation, despite Iran's unwarranted aggressive practices, harassment, threats, and arbitrary declarations," reiterating Iran does not control the strait, and maritime traffic proceeds normally.
These developments cast doubts on the future of the temporary U.S.-Iran agreement signed the previous month, aimed at reopening the strait and ending hostilities following additional negotiations over 60 days.
