The spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, emphasized the coalition's commitment to securing its vessels passing through the Bab al-Mandab Strait. He asserted that there would be a robust and determined response to any Houthi threats against transiting ships, deeming such actions a direct violation of international law and akin to maritime piracy.
General Al-Maliki clarified misconceptions surrounding allegations of closing Yemeni ports and airports, highlighting these as part of the Houthi escalation against the Yemeni government and neighboring countries.
He stated that Houthi claims of a blockade are misleading, noting that over 300 commercial ships accessed the ports of Hodeidah, As-Salif, and Ras Isa in the first half of 2026, carrying various essential goods, fuel, and construction materials.
Al-Maliki pointed out that it was the Houthi militia that shut down Sana’a International Airport, destroyed Yemenia Airlines aircraft, and blocked efforts to resume flights to and from the airport.
The Brigadier reaffirmed the coalition's measures to safeguard its ships in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, reiterating that any threats from the Houthis would be countered with decisive force, highlighting these acts as clear breaches of international law equivalent to acts of piracy.
