The Ministry of Culture announced that the World Heritage Committee has added the five castles of Jabal Amel (Shaqif, Tibnin, Doubieh, Deir Kifa, Shamaa) to the list of endangered World Heritage Sites.
Lebanon had initially placed the castles on its tentative World Heritage list on September 11, 2025, before submitting a request on June 23, 2026, for emergency consideration. This action was prompted by the intensifying military operations in the south and reports of damage affecting parts of the five sites.
