U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that talks with Tehran appear to be 'going well,' reiterating his positive outlook on negotiations to end the conflict with Iran but without delving into specific details of the discussions.
In an interview published Wednesday evening with journalist Tom Dorian from Fox 5 Las Vegas, Trump said, 'I've heard things are progressing nicely.'
Trump consistently aims to present an optimistic view of the talks, despite the six-month duration of the war with Iran and both parties failing thus far to reach a lasting resolution.
Trump stated that reaching an agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz is imminent.
In the interview, Trump remarked, 'I am not looking to kill people and wipe out everything, which is where we were heading. They wanted to negotiate, and so we are doing that, and things appear to be going well.'
Human rights experts have condemned Trump's threats to target civilian infrastructure.
Iran has vowed to target critical infrastructure in the region if the U.S. follows through on these threats.
