In 2026, Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe's centennial birthday will be commemorated, as she was born on June 1, 1926. Monroe, who left an indelible mark on the world, passed away on August 5, 1962, at the age of 36.
To celebrate her enduring cinematic legacy, Mattel has announced the release of a Barbie doll. This new edition not only captures the late Hollywood star's iconic appearance but also embodies her spirit and renowned elegance.
The famed Barbie doll portrays the late star Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson), inspired by her performance of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" in the 1953 film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." The doll is adorned in a pink dress with a large bow at the back, complemented by elegant gloves and dazzling diamond-like jewelry.
This special Barbie, part of a collaboration with the Marilyn Monroe Estate, was officially released for sale on August 18.
The newly launched "Barbie Marilyn Monroe" is not the first to pay tribute to the late star. Between 1997 and 2002, multiple Barbie collections featured versions styled after Monroe, including her iconic white dress from "The Seven Year Itch," her sequined red gown from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," and the one-shoulder evening gown from "How to Marry a Millionaire."
