Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated on Friday via his Telegram channel that Iran must devise a plan to overcome the 'unjust sanctions.'
His comments followed U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant's announcement of what he described as the toughest sanctions ever imposed on Iran.
China, on Friday, expressed that U.S. 'sanctions and pressure' on Iran are not the solution, after Washington urged its allies and Beijing to join a broad campaign of economic pressure aimed at causing a 'regime change' in Tehran without resorting to war.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated at a regular press conference, 'Sanctions and pressure will not help resolve the issue.' He further urged all concerned parties to take responsible actions and to resolve the problem through political and diplomatic means.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance emphasized on Thursday that increasing economic pressure on Iran is the best strategy to defeat the country after dismantling its military capabilities.
Vance mentioned in press statements that intensifying economic pressure on Iran will alter its calculations towards striking a deal, forcing it to choose between economic strangulation and establishing normal relations with the international community.
In a statement to CNBC, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant expressed that economic pressure will limit Iran's ability to move its proxies and pay its army.
Besant also confirmed that Washington would take punitive actions against nations continuing to trade with Iran, noting it is time for Washington’s allies to make their positions clear.
In contrast, Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the new economic and trade sanctions imposed by the United States, arguing they directly target the Iranian people and reach the level of economic terrorism and crimes against humanity, as per a ministry statement.
