Abu Faour Urges Reconsideration of Decision to End UNIFIL Operations

In a statement made after a session with the Foreign Affairs Committee and representatives from several embassies, Member of the Democratic Gathering bloc, MP Wael Abu Faour, reiterated the call to reconsider UN Security Council Resolution 2790 adopted in 2025. He emphasized the need for UNIFIL forces to continue their mission in southern Lebanon under the auspices of international legitimacy, as previously demanded by 86 MPs representing over two-thirds of the Parliament, as well as by the Lebanese government.

He stated that it is not in Lebanon's interest to explore alternatives to UNIFIL in the south or to entertain other dangerous proposals being circulated about international forces outside the UN framework, noting such moves could place Lebanon outside international legitimacy, complying with external agendas. Abu Faour highlighted the need to avoid repeating the similar fate imposed on Gaza, which led to increased violence and occupation.
