This afternoon, President Michel Aoun met with the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Michael Richard, at the Baabda Palace. The meeting included members from the U.S. Congress's Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committees.
The discussions focused on the current political and field developments, especially the ongoing release of Lebanese detainees from Israeli prisons, and preparations for the upcoming Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations.
President Aoun expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Richard's efforts in the release of several Lebanese detainees, emphasizing the need to continue the efforts to free all remaining detainees based on the agreements reached during the trilateral negotiations and in continuation of the framework agreement.
The parties also discussed U.S. support for the Lebanese Army, particularly the assistance provided and the budget allocations made by the U.S. Congress.
The meeting comes at a time of heightened political communications in preparation for the upcoming negotiations, with Lebanon focusing on the detainees' issue and enhancing international support for official institutions, primarily the Lebanese Army.
