Israel announced that it has been subjected to an environmental attack by Iran, describing it as environmental terrorism.
Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection, Gila Gamaliel, tweeted this evening that Israel has "seized the criminal ship," as she termed it. Gamaliel stated, "Over the past two weeks, investigators from the Ministry of Environmental Protection have been working day and night. We searched every possible corner - with the aim of getting our hands on the criminal ship." The Israeli minister added, "After narrowing down the number of suspects in the incident, we discovered that this was not just an environmental crime - but environmental terrorism." She explained that "a pirate ship owned by a Libyan company that sailed from Iran is responsible for the environmental attack."
Gila Gamaliel noted that "Iran is behind the recent oil spill incident off the coast of Israel, which caused environmental damage, and the incident is being treated as a terrorist act." She further stated, "Iran practices terrorism, not only through nuclear weapons and attempts to position itself on our borders but also through terrorism that harms the environment." The Israeli investigation focused on an unidentified ship that passed about 50 kilometers from the coast on February 11, which they regard as the potential source of what environmental conservation groups are describing as "an environmental disaster that may take years to erase the traces of."
