The Tunisian Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that the country has entered the fourth wave of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Fawzi Mahdi, the Tunisian Minister of Health, stated that the country has officially entered this new wave, adding that there are 18 governorates in Tunisia classified as high-risk areas due to the increased rate of infections. He noted that the ministry is working to support hospitals with the necessary equipment to treat COVID-19 patients, in addition to accelerating the vaccination campaign. This comes as the Prime Minister visits Geneva to secure large quantities of vaccines as part of the WHO’s COVAX initiative for equitable vaccine distribution to all countries around the world. Mahdi denied the existence of expired doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, confirming that only 190 doses of the British vaccine are available in the country. Dr. Aman Allah Al-Massadi, a member of the scientific committee for combating the Coronavirus, previously stated that the country is on the brink of entering the fourth wave of the virus.
