Denmark became the second European country to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with two matches remaining in the qualifiers, by defeating Austria 1-0 at home on Tuesday, securing the top spot in their group with an unassailable lead. Following Germany's qualification on Monday for the finals, where 32 teams will compete, Denmark secured their place in the World Cup with a goal from Joachim Mæhle in the 53rd minute, achieving their eighth consecutive victory in the qualifiers. Denmark missed several chances before Mæhle managed to deceive the visitor's goalkeeper after a brilliant play from his teammate Thomas Delaney. Only the group leaders advance directly to the finals in the European qualifiers, while the second-placed teams enter the playoffs.
