Milan's Goalkeeper to Undergo Surgery After Salah's Shot

AC Milan, competing in the Italian league, announced on Wednesday that their goalkeeper Mike Maignan will be sidelined for ten weeks after undergoing surgery on his wrist. Maignan sustained the wrist injury while saving a penalty taken by Egyptian Mohamed Salah during a match between Liverpool and AC Milan in the Champions League.

Maignan successfully saved Salah's powerful penalty but paid a steep price, as he was substituted during the game due to wrist pain, which was later discovered to be a ligament tear.

Milan stated on their website: "Milan can confirm that Mike Maignan underwent an arthroscopy today that revealed an injury to the ligaments of his left wrist, which has now been treated." They added, "The surgery was completely successful. He will rest for six weeks before beginning rehabilitation. His absence from matches is expected to last for ten weeks."

Maignan has excelled since joining Milan from Lille in May under a five-year contract, participating in all of Milan's matches in the Italian league and the Champions League. His absence is a blow for coach Stefano Pioli, as he will miss several key matches, including four remaining in the Champions League group stage, as well as fixtures against Roma and Inter Milan in the league.

It is unlikely that Maignan will return to action before the winter break in the Italian league this coming January.
