Tensions Rise in Lebanese Parliament: Speaker Berri Clashes with MP Habchi

The Lebanese Parliament session aimed at discussing government matters witnessed a heated exchange between MP Antoine Habchi and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. The debate centered around positions on the 'Framework Agreement,' prisoners, and weapons.

MP Habchi told Speaker Berri, “The Framework Agreement would dissolve if we decide to terminate it,” highlighting that he managed to secure the release of five prisoners, unlike the 2024 Agreement, allegedly overseen by Berri, which did not secure any prisoner releases.

Habchi further criticized, saying, “Those who should be held accountable are the officials in power who are indecisive,” accusing them of “covering for Hezbollah’s weapons and washing their hands in a cheap, sarcastic manner.”

In response, Speaker Berri sharply retorted, “Weigh your words before making such statements; I am doing my job.”

MP Ihab Hamadeh also responded to Habchi, arguing that his statements were “misleading attempts to distort reality in Parliament,” adding, “Let them buy weapons and strengthen the army... and falsifying is a disgrace.”
