Lebanese Army: Casualties and Injuries, 9 Arrested in Beirut Clashes

The Lebanese Army issued the following statement: "On 14/10/2021, while a number of protesters were heading to the Adlieh area for a sit-in, a conflict and an exchange of gunfire occurred in the Tayouneh - Badaro area, resulting in the death of several citizens and injuries to others. Immediately, the army reinforced its presence in the area, deploying both foot and armored patrols. It also raided several locations in search of the gunmen and arrested nine individuals from both sides, including a Syrian. Investigations with the detainees are underway under the supervision of the relevant judiciary. The army leadership has contacted the concerned parties from both sides to contain the situation and prevent slipping into sectarian strife. The leadership reaffirms its commitment to not tolerate any armed individuals, while army units continue to be deployed in the area to prevent a resurgence of clashes."
