Message from Saudi Arabia to the Security Council Regarding Houthi Attacks

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed on Saturday night that the targeting of civilian infrastructure and the threat to innocent civilians by Houthi militias is a heinous war crime, and they must be held accountable under international humanitarian law.

The Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Maalimi, emphasized in a message sent to the Security Council on Friday evening that Saudi Arabia is taking all necessary measures to safeguard its territory and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents in accordance with its obligations under international law.

In his message, Al-Maalimi stated, "Based on instructions from my government, I am writing again about the ongoing terrorist attacks carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia." He added, "A recent example of such terrorist acts is the attempted attack on Abha International Airport with a drone laden with explosives that was intercepted, resulting in injuries to four airport employees and damage to some windows."

Al-Maalimi clarified that "the continued absence of adequate and strict measures from the international community, especially the Security Council, towards these militias sends a wrong message to the Houthis to continue destabilizing regional security and international peace."

The Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, on behalf of the Kingdom, called on the Security Council to assume its responsibility towards the Houthi militias to stop their threats to international peace and security and to hold them accountable, requesting that this message be circulated as an official document of the Security Council.

This message from Al-Maalimi to the Security Council comes just hours after the Coalition Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen announced that 10 civilians were injured in an attack carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias using an explosive-laden drone on King Abdullah Airport in Jazan, Southwestern Saudi Arabia.
