The State Department stated in a statement that "the presidential special envoy for climate, John Kerry, will visit Moscow from July 12 to 15 to meet with Russian officials and discuss ways to enhance global climate ambitions."
It is worth noting that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously discussed climate issues with John Kerry over the phone, agreeing to continue intensive bilateral communications. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated in this regard that "the conversation touched upon issues of Russian-American cooperation in achieving the goals of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in the context of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention in Glasgow." The ministry added, "Intensive bilateral communications on climate issues were agreed to be continued, as discussed by the Presidents of Russia and the United States at the Geneva Summit, focusing on the need to build Russian-American cooperation."
