Harnaaz Sandhu, Miss India, has officially been crowned Miss Universe 2021. The 21-year-old Sandhu triumphed over 79 contestants from various countries and regions, including Paraguay's first runner-up, Nadia Ferreira, and South Africa's second runner-up, Lalela Mswane. Sandhu received the crown from Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza before embarking on her first walk as the new Miss Universe on stage at the Eilat resort in Israel overlooking the Red Sea. The Miss Universe 2021 pageant was held seven months after Meza (27 years old) was crowned in May. In a statement prior to the pageant on Sunday, Israeli Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov expressed happiness at welcoming Miss Universe to his country, despite ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 virus.
