The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has decided to fine the English club Liverpool due to a "comical incident" that occupied social media weeks ago. UEFA announced a financial penalty of 5,000 euros for Liverpool, following an incident during a Champions League match against Portuguese team Porto, where a young fan invaded the pitch.
The incident went viral weeks ago when a small child ran onto Anfield's field, "stole" the match ball, and then dashed away from security to return the ball to the stands. The video gained significant traction on social media, and the popularity of the "Liverpool Boy" skyrocketed among football fans, who admired his passion for the team and cleverness in escaping from security.
As soon as the Liverpool vs. Porto match concluded, the young boy entered the pitch, approached Scottish defender Andy Robertson directly, asked for the match ball, took it, and quickly returned to the stands.
