Liverpool Suicide Bomber Identified as Syrian National

British police have revealed the identity of the Liverpool attack perpetrator, who was found to be a Syrian suicide bomber that died inside a taxi which exploded outside a hospital in Liverpool on Sunday. The police released the first image of the attacker, identified as Imad Jamil Al-Suwailmin, a 32-year-old man with an Iraqi mother. He had arrived in Britain as a refugee from Iraq years ago and had converted to Christianity four years ago at the cathedral he intended to attack.

Additional information about him indicates that he was a car racing enthusiast and changed his first name to Enzo in honor of the founder of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari, in an attempt to make his name sound more Western when applying for asylum to the immigration authorities.

British media outlets aired footage of the attack captured by public surveillance cameras, showing the moment the car exploded outside the Liverpool Women's Hospital in an incident regarded by UK anti-terrorism police as a clear act of terrorism.

Al-Suwailmin spent several years living in Liverpool, where he became involved with members of a network of churches assisting asylum seekers. However, after eight months of living among them, he suddenly decided to carry out the bombing after learning that 1,200 military personnel, veterans, and families of the deceased would gather there for a moment of silence at 11 AM on Sunday.

The explosion led to his death, but the taxi driver managed to escape miraculously, as seen in the video where he quickly flees the scene. Additionally, it was revealed that he had made an explosive device at home and initially asked the taxi driver to take him to the cathedral. However, traffic and road closures prevented them from reaching it. At one point, the taxi driver sensed that the passenger intended to do something harmful, locked the doors, and drove him to the hospital grounds. As soon as he parked the taxi, the Syrian suicide bomber detonated the device, killing only himself.
