Under the title "Arrest of the Fourth 'Human Mechanic' in Egypt: Agriculture Graduate," the Al Arabiya website reported that a strange "phenomenon" has emerged in Egypt recently, where individuals are impersonating sensitive medical professions that they have no relation to. However, the authorities acted swiftly, arresting four "human mechanics," the latest of whom was apprehended today, Thursday.
In detail, the authorities raided a physiotherapy center in Dar Al-Salam city in Sohag, run by a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture who impersonated a doctor, claiming to be a family medicine specialist, injury rehabilitation expert, fitness trainer, and holder of a PhD in nutritional therapy and immunology.
The investigation revealed that the fake doctor deceived his patients, particularly women and the elderly, into believing they were receiving acupuncture treatment, claiming to be an expert in manual therapy and chiropractic techniques. He was also caught examining a woman and was found to be misleading them into thinking he treated them with cupping and bee venom, along with creating treatments for hair issues, wrinkles, and facial and lip fattening.
In recent days, authorities also arrested another fake doctor operating a physiotherapy center in the Sharqia Governorate in the north of the country. The Sharqia health directorate announced the closure of an unlicensed physiotherapy center in Abu Kabir run by an individual with a trade diploma who impersonates a doctor. The center operated without a professional license and offered human medicine and physiotherapy services. Additionally, the authorities seized unlawful medical supplies in the center, including used injections and medical test tubes disposed of unsafely, as well as non-sterilized surgical instruments.
