A young Egyptian man filed a lawsuit for annulment of his marriage contract in the Family Court in October, claiming deception and fraud by his wife, who hid that she was previously married in a customary manner. He alleged that she concealed this information out of fear of being separated from him if he learned about it.
According to the newspaper "Youm7," he stated, "After the marriage contract, I was shocked when her ex-husband came to me with the customary marriage contract of my wife and their divorce, as well as my wife’s abortion of a child that she had with him. When I confronted her, she tried to lie and deceive me, but after she saw the marriage contract in my hands, she attempted to plead with me not to inform her family."
The husband continued in his lawsuit before the Family Court: "I have been living in misery for over 4 months trying to separate from her by all means, but she demands compensation from me and accuses me of exposing her, despite the fraud and deception she committed against me, along with harassment from her family to continue the marriage to cover up the disaster their daughter caused by marrying me."
He indicated: "I was shocked to find out that she conspired with her ex-husband to harass me for payment of money and to blackmail me by threatening to harm me. When I refused to submit to them, her ex-husband attempted to run me over with his car, which led me to turn to the court out of despair and helplessness as I tried to prove the deception I suffered from my wife, along with the losses I incurred and the substantial amounts I paid her, apart from the jewelry and goods that exceeded 300,000 Egyptian pounds."
He confirmed: "I am still facing threats from my wife's family, and it has reached a point where they hired thugs to attack me, preventing me from accessing my apartment, where she now lives with her family. They refuse to give me my rights and threaten me to withdraw my lawsuits and complaints against them."
According to the law, the legislator has stipulated several religious and legal conditions that must be met for a marriage contract to be valid and produce its effects, including that the parties involved must be of legal age, sane, free, adult, and not suffer from any defects in consent, such as foolishness, insanity, or loss of religion, in addition to the marriage contract not being based on deception and concealment of defects that render it invalid.
