The German Cancer Society stated that bone cancer is classified as a rare cancer, commonly affecting the pelvis, and the long bones in the legs and arms. The society noted that the causes are unknown; however, doctors speculate that genetic factors, genetic changes, chronic bone diseases, and undergoing radiation therapy at an early age may contribute to its development.
Symptoms include pain and swelling in the area surrounding the tumor, limited mobility due to joint deterioration, and a heightened risk of bone fractures, in addition to general symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, and decreased ability to exert effort.
Depending on the case, bone cancer is treated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery.
