The Portuguese club Sporting Braga hosted the Italian club Roma in the first leg of the Round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League.
Roma achieved a 2-0 victory against their hosts, Sporting Braga. Bosnian striker Edin Džeko opened the scoring for Roma early in the fifth minute, and Spanish player Borja Mayoral added the second goal in the 86th minute. Italian player Stephan El Shaarawy, of Egyptian descent, participated in the match, replacing Pedro Rodríguez after returning from a stint in the Chinese league.
With this away win, Roma has taken a significant step towards qualifying for the next round, as a draw or a one-goal loss in the return match will be enough, or they can secure advancement by winning against the Portuguese representative. It is noteworthy that the second leg will take place next Thursday at the “Stadio Olimpico” in Rome at 10 PM.
