There are few people who can tell Cristiano Ronaldo what he should do, but his mother, Dolores Aveiro, insisted that she will try to convince her son to return to his former team, Sporting Lisbon, this summer. While Ronaldo leads the Italian league's scoring chart this season, having reached 100 goals with Juventus during their 3-1 victory over Sassuolo on Wednesday, the club has had a tough year and may finish the season outside of the top four.
In contrast, Sporting, where Ronaldo began his professional career, won the Portuguese league title for the first time since 2002 after defeating Boavista on Tuesday, ending the 19-year dominance of rivals Porto and Benfica on the title.
Dolores Aveiro, an enthusiastic Sporting supporter, stated during the celebrations for the title that she would bring the Juventus striker back to the Portuguese club. She said from her balcony while talking to Sporting fans during the street celebrations, "I will talk to him (Cristiano) to bring him back."
She added, "Next year he will play at Alvalade (Sporting's stadium)."
Ronaldo (36 years old) is contracted with Juventus until the end of next season, but reports suggest he may leave this summer, with discussions about the possibility of playing for Sporting, where he began before moving to Manchester United and then Real Madrid, becoming one of the world's best players.
