The International Ice Hockey Federation announced today, Tuesday, that the 2021 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship will be held in Riga, the capital of Latvia, following the exclusion of Belarus from co-hosting the tournament.
Last month, the Federation withdrew organizing rights from Belarus due to safety concerns and political issues in the country, as sponsors threatened to withdraw if the tournament was held in Minsk. Denmark and Slovakia had aimed to co-host the tournament, but the International Federation decided it was better for teams to remain in Riga to avoid travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is worth noting that the championship is scheduled to take place from May 21 to June 6, with matches being played in two arenas in Riga, and all teams staying in the same hotel.
