American scientists from the Grossman School of Medicine at New York University have discovered that physical activity increases the chances of cancer recovery by 50 percent. The journal Cancer Cell reports that researchers found that exercising significantly enhances the effectiveness of cancer treatments. In this study, researchers analyzed data from 75 patients with pancreatic cancer. They asked a group to engage in strength training for one hour and aerobic exercises for one and a half hours per week before undergoing surgery to remove the malignant tumor. The second group continued with their usual lifestyle. The researchers found that individuals in the physically active group, after six weeks, had a five-year survival rate that was 50 percent higher compared to the second group. According to the researchers, physical exercise can increase the effectiveness of drugs and improve survival chances for cancer patients.
