After free eggs and shopping vouchers, Chinese authorities have resorted to music to encourage hesitant residents to receive the vaccine. They released a hip-hop music video on Tuesday to promote the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. The video, featuring the catchy phrase "Get vaccinated quickly," was published by the health department in Sichuan Province (southwest) on social media and has garnered thousands of "likes."
The video shows a person in a white coat among nursing staff saying, "The whole world is scrambling to get Chinese vaccines, and other countries are waiting for them day and night."
On a national scale, more than 421.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered as of Tuesday, according to statistics.
Although this number seems impressive, the vaccination campaign has been slow in China, hindered by a controlled epidemic situation and a lack of urgency felt by the population regarding the necessity of vaccination.
By mid-May, about 30 percent of China's population had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccine. However, authorities are trying to expedite their campaign with a goal of vaccinating 40 percent of the population by June (or 560 million people), as new sporadic outbreaks of the virus have emerged in Anhui Province (east) and Liaoning Province (northeast).
