The United States has announced the deployment of the 101st Airborne Division to Europe as part of strengthening NATO's eastern flank. This division played an active role in combat operations in Europe during World War II. The U.S. representative to NATO tweeted: "After 80 years, the 101st Airborne Division, known as the Screaming Eagles, has returned to Europe." According to her, approximately 2,400 American soldiers will be stationed in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovakia "to protect NATO's air flank."
