No French Visits to Lebanon Soon... Unencouraging Signals

Diplomatic sources told "Al-Liwaa" that any high-ranking French official visiting Lebanon soon is unlikely, contrary to previous speculation, to consult with Lebanese officials about the situation in Lebanon and to understand the steps the authorities intend to take to resolve the difficult financial and economic crisis facing the country.

They noted that Ambassador Pierre Duquesne's visit to Lebanon is limited to discussing and reviewing the steps taken by the resigned government regarding the required reform measures as a fundamental condition for providing any assistance, whether from the CEDRE conference or elsewhere. Without implementing the necessary reforms, whether in the electricity sector or others, such assistance will not be disbursed. The sources also pointed out that the delay in establishing a mechanism for the Saudi-French aid fund for Lebanon thus far, despite the lack of disclosure about the reasons for this delay, sends unencouraging signals and reflects a general sense of discomfort about the situation.
