Amid the spread of the coronavirus and the rise in the number of infections and deaths due to the disease, Asem Araji, head of the Health Committee in the Lebanese Parliament, urged President Michel Aoun to declare a state of health emergency in the country.
Araji stated: "The daily number of coronavirus infections has exceeded 5,000, and the partial lockdown that is not being implemented will not yield the desired results," calling for a "complete general lockdown in the country for one week." He urged President Aoun and resigned Prime Minister Hassan Diab to move towards declaring a health emergency to curb the increasing number of infections.
