First Film to Exceed $1 Billion During the Pandemic

The new action and adventure film "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has surpassed $1 billion in global box office revenue, becoming the first film to reach this milestone amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The film stars Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire and is directed by Jon Watts.

It topped the box office in North America over the weekend, earning $81 million. In a distant second place was the animated musical "Sing 2," which earned $23.7 million, featuring Taron Egerton, Bono, Tori Kelly, and Scarlett Johansson, and directed by Garth Jennings.

Taking third place was "The Matrix Resurrections," which also had a significant gap, grossing $12 million. This film stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Priyanka Chopra, and Jessica Henwick, and is directed by Lana Wachowski.

The thriller "The King's Man" came in fourth with $6.3 million over the weekend, featuring Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, and Harris Dickinson, and directed by Matthew Vaughn.

Rounding out the top five was "American Underdog," which earned $6.2 million. This film stars Zachary Levi, Anna Paquin, Dennis Quaid, and Adam Baldwin, and is directed by Jon Erwin and Andrew Erwin.
