The Egyptian presidency mourned Jehan Sadat, widow of the late President Anwar Sadat, who passed away at the age of 88 after a deterioration in her health in recent times. The official spokesperson for the presidency, Bassam Rady, stated: "The Presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt mourns with deep sadness and grief the lady Jehan Sadat, wife of the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat, the hero of war and peace." He added: "She set an example for Egyptian women in supporting her husband under the most difficult and delicate circumstances until he led the country to achieve the historic victory in the glorious October War, which represented a turning point in modern Egyptian history and restored dignity and honor to it." Furthermore, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi issued a decree to grant her the "Medal of Perfection" and to name one of Cairo's axes after her. It is noteworthy that Jehan Sadat was born in 1933 to an Egyptian father and a British mother, and she had recently entered intensive care at the Egyptian Global Medical Center due to her battle with cancer. During the 1973 War, Jehan headed the Egyptian Red Crescent and the Egyptian Blood Bank Association, and she was the honorary president of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, as well as being the president of the Egyptian Association for Cancer Patients, the Egyptian Association for the Protection of Antiquities, the Scientific Society for Egyptian Women, and the Association for the Care of University and Higher Institute Students.
