Indian Variant of Coronavirus Detected in At Least 17 Countries

The World Health Organization reported on Tuesday that the Indian variant of the Coronavirus has been detected in "at least 17 countries," including Belgium, Switzerland, Greece, and Italy. This variant is suspected of causing an unprecedented health crisis in India. The organization clarified that the variant B.617.1, widely referred to as the "Indian variant," has been identified in "at least 17 countries," particularly in several European nations such as Belgium, Switzerland, Greece, and Italy.

India has recently become the epicenter of the outbreak with the spread of the "Indian" variant, and it is the world's most populous country after China, witnessing daily record numbers of new infections. On Monday, India reported 352,991 new infections in a single day, the highest daily total in the world, in addition to 2,812 deaths, which is also a national record. India ranks as the fourth most affected country globally in terms of deaths, with over 192,000 fatalities. Crematoriums have been operating at full capacity in recent days.
