Secretary-General of the Arab League to Arrive in Beirut

The "Central" learned that the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, will arrive in Beirut at the end of this month to participate in the periodic meeting of Arab foreign ministers before the Arab summit scheduled to be held in Algeria next October. Aboul Gheit is responding to the invitation of Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib, as Lebanon is currently the president of the Arab Council, which meets twice in June and September for consultations. The attendees will discuss the agenda for the Algeria summit, particularly the issue of Syria's participation and its return to its seat, given the prevailing direction not to reinstate it due to a lack of Arab consensus on this matter.
